Mashu is an accessories label specializing in handbags.

Designed in London and made in Greece. Made by London-based designer Ioanna Topouzoglou.

Inspired by Art Déco and contemporary architecture. The structured minimal silhouettes of the bags offset the playful embroidered textures to create a nuanced aesthetic balance.

The bespoke handles – a signature of the brand – turn each bag into a unique and distinctive statement. Inspired by Ancient Greek columns.

These pieces of arm candy do more than just look good : they are vegan too!

Mashu is committed to using premium sustainable materials because we are conscious of the health and welfare of our planet.

Mashu puts sustainability at its core.

This is why we use materials based on conservation of raw materials, toxic-free solutions, and with minimal dependency on natural resources. For example we are using materials from recycled polyester and plastic. That means reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 80% compared to the traditional petrol-based polyester production process. By using recycled polyester and plastic we also reduce the amount of petroleum we use in our products.

We also started to use natural fibres such as Pinatex a leather alternative made from cellulose fibres extracted from pineapple leaves.

All of our materials are 100% recyclable at the end of their useful life. Our handles are all made from wooden off-cuts from a furniture company in Greece that would otherwise be thrown or burned creating a circular economy and cradle2cradle design system.

Our mission is to make beautiful and cool bags that don’t harm animals, humans and our planet.

What do we do to achieve this?

By not using conventional leather that has heavy use of resources including land, water, food and fuel that contains toxic chemicals such as Chromium, we don’t contribute to its unsustainable practices. Instead, we make sure that our sustainable alternative materials do not have a heavy use of water and use less energy by finding and using recycled and bio-based materials. By incorporating as many circular materials as possible into our bags we have a minimal dependency on natural resources.

Of course there is always room for improvement and we are constantly focusing on ways to reduce our impact and consumption of natural resources. We make sure our suppliers are all transparent with their production methods so we know what our impact is and ways we can improve.

We are proud to produce our bags in Greece. Each bag is ethically handcrafted with love and care by talented Greek artisans. It is important to us to support and promote Greek craft by working with local artisans and factories ensuring workers rights and enriching local economy.
